Genuinely effective Year 4 spelling practice, done consistently across the week using short daily sessions, should realistically take 5-10 minutes per day — roughly 30-50 minutes total across a full week, not one long weekend session. If a single sitting is regularly running 30+ minutes, the format is very likely the problem, not the content itself.
Why long sessions usually backfire
Sustained focus genuinely has limits, particularly for this age group.
